Porsche has been working on a facelift for the 911 for quite some time now and that seems to be a relatively drastic one. Here we see a 992-generation 911 Turbo, which in this case only appears to be sporting the new rear end.
More than a year ago, the Porsche 911 Turbo also passed by with the necessary camouflage on it, but Porsche is still not done with it. Remarkably enough, that prototype had a different nose than this one. On this example we see a nose that looks familiar from the 992, while the previous prototype showed some innovations. For example, the turn signals move with the facelift; these will be vertical ones next to the air inlets, instead of (as on this one) the horizontal ones in the inlets. The 911 Turbo shown here has a completely different rear, while it was still unchanged with the previous one. Porsche seems to be testing the facelift in two steps. First the new front, now the new butt.
And new, it certainly is. With the facelift, the exhausts shift more to the corners to begin with, but we find the biggest novelty a bit higher. The taillights of the 911 are being overhauled quite extensively. Yes, a facelift remains relatively subtle with a 911, but this is still a significant change. As we recently saw with a simpler version, the bottom layer of LED lighting slides up a bit and the rising ends may have been done with. It will be a more straightforward design, a bit like the Taycan.
It is still exciting what exactly happens in the back of the facelifted Porsche 911 Turbo. The fact that the exhausts are further apart may be a sign of a little more hardware in the engine compartment. A new electric motor to rev up the turbo or maybe even an electric motor linked to the gearbox for hybrid propulsion? Time will tell. We will probably welcome the facelifted Porsche 911 in the second half of this year.
