SKOTTI demountable gas grill: for motor camping

Those who go camping with a car have plenty of room for a skottel braai, but cooking with the motorcycle at the campsite is a lot more difficult. Our eastern neighbors have come up with a solution for this: the SKOTTI, the world’s first demountable gas grill with which you can barbecue at the motor campsite, at the lake, in the park or simply at home on the balcony.

After two successful years in the market, the SKOTTI is already starting its third barbecue season. According to the German manufacturer, the “light” grill, which weighs only 3 kg, scores above all due to its simple and safe operation, unsurpassed multi-functionality and high-quality workmanship. The individual parts can be assembled in no time at all. No tools required.

“A packed SKOTTI is so compact that it can be easily carried on a luggage carrier, in a hiking backpack or under your arm in the tram and it is ideal for a small city balcony,” explains designer Christian Battel.

The easiest and most environmentally friendly way to use SKOTTI is with gas. The matching screw bottles are available worldwide, in Europe these are screw bottles with a maximum filling weight of 500 grams with a gas mixture of proban/butane in accordance with EN 417.

The grill produces as much heat as a standard upright model. If you omit only three parts when building the grill, it is also suitable for coal or wood.

The storage bag made of truck tarpaulin can also be used as a surface when grilling on gas. An all-round Velcro strip prevents grease and other dirt from being released during transport. All essential parts are made of high quality stainless steel.

The gas hose and the gas tap are also designed for durability. “We deliberately dispensed with technical bells and whistles that could cause problems over time,” explains designer Christian Battel. “Moreover, SKOTTI is a good alternative to disposable barbecues. These often cause garbage cans in, for example, city parks to overflow in the summer, and they also scorch the grass.”

According to the manufacturer, cleaning the SKOTTI should be child’s play. Either by cleaning the grill manually with normal detergent, or by putting the stainless steel parts in the dishwasher.

Christian Battel came up with the idea for SKOTTI while sitting by a lake one afternoon with his family. “There you sit along the bank, you’re hungry and you think to yourself, ‘If only I had a grill!’ A grill that you can easily take anywhere, that doesn’t weigh too much and that can be set up and taken down in no time at all, preferably without polluting the environment with glowing coals, that quickly barbecues sausages for hungry children and does not cause any nuisance caused by fire and smoke. If it doesn’t exist, I’ll build one myself!”

SKOTTI is available at www.skotti-grill.eu and costs €159. If you wish, you can also order the grill with a personal and unique laser engraving. An engraved SKOTTI costs €179.
