While the compact Stellantis models that have been using the modular CMP platform suitable for EV technology for several years will soon undergo a facelift or have even been renewed, the Citroën C3 and C3 Aircross still have to make do with older technology. The C3, which is now almost 7 years old, is still on the PF1 platform, just like the one year younger C3 Aircross, with which the previous generation Peugeot 208 and 2008 also made their mileage. Both the C3 and the C3 Aircross have been facelifted a while ago, which means that it will probably not be years before Citroën helps the pair to a new generation. Today Citroën shows a first glimpse of the new C3 Aircross which will already make its public debut on April 27. But whether this is the model that will come to Europe remains to be seen.

Will the Citroën C3 Aircross become a party that is no longer celebrated in Europe? Probably not, but Citroën has cut up the C3 family. For example, in September 2021 the French conjured up a new C3 from the top hat that will not come to Europe. The new Citroën C3 is already on a variant of the modular and significantly younger CMP platform, but is currently only intended for a handful of Asian and South American markets. The C3 Aircross, which will see the light of day later this week, also seems to be intended for those markets. In any case, the teaser plate that Citroën shows shows a piece of the C3 Aircross that fits perfectly with the front of the new C3, which you cannot buy here.
The new C3 that is in the showroom outside Europe is also for sale with a fully electric powertrain. We aim for the C3 Aircross, which will make its debut this week, to be available with an electric powertrain in due course. But do not be sad. The European market will just get another new C3. After all, Citroën confirmed this in October 2022. In the form of a new C3 Aircross, the new C3 will also have a crossover brother in Europe. It is unclear whether the versions coming to Europe show strong similarities in terms of design with their namesakes delivered outside Europe.
Citroën has registered just under 7,500 copies of the C3 Aircross in the Netherlands from 2017.
