The British AC has officially pulled the curtain on its Cobra GT Roadster at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium in London: a modern appearance inspired by the time-honored AC Cobra. The car is now available worldwide in both left-hand and right-hand drive and is built in an edition of 250 units per year. Prices are not yet known.

With what we’ve learned so far about the new AC Cobra GT Roadster, little of the news that will be released at the unveiling is a surprise, but we’re happy to hoist it on the digital stage nonetheless. A number of facts about the ‘new Cobra’ are indeed news. One is that the makers, the British AC, were committed to developing the car as a full-fledged one gran turismo. This means that the car will have all kinds of modern safety technologies (such as modern traction control) on board and will offer sufficient space and comfort for people ‘well over 1.80 metres’.

We also know more about the weight of the more than 4.2 meter long Cobra GT Roadster – an important fact, given the philosophy of the original model. The modern AC Cobra weighs ‘less than 1,450 kg’ including fluids, which is a bit less than initially suggested by AC. The company kept weight down by using an aluminum tubular chassis, which was then clad in carbon composite panels.

The Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires reveal that the AC Cobra GT Roadster must also hold its own on the track.

In 3.4 seconds to 100

For the motorization there is a choice of two 5-liter V8s, one of which is atmospheric and one has a supercharger. The former delivers up to 460 horsepower, while the supercharged variant can unleash up to 663 hp on the rear wheels. Both engines can be combined with a ten-speed automatic transmission or a six-speed manual transmission. If you choose the most powerful variant with the automatic transmission, the Cobra GT Roadster is able to accelerate to 100 km / h in 3.4 seconds.

AC will produce about 250 units of the AC Cobra GT Roadster per year and the first 250 cars have already been sold. It is not yet known how long the company will produce the roadster, but count on at least a year waiting time – if you are interested. We don’t have an exact price yet, but an amount of more than €300,000 – especially after bpm is added – is very likely.

In addition, the prices for the GT Roadster will vary anyway, because each copy can be decorated to taste – and for a fee. Especially for the interior there is most likely plenty to choose from. We see that interior for the first time on the attached images and it shows unmistakable similarities with that of the original AC Cobras. In it you only found no navigation system or climate control …
