More power and more economical
Citroën is bringing a new electrified engine version to the C5 Aircross, but don’t expect the biggest legged Citroën to get an electric or new plug-in hybrid powertrain. The Citroën C5 Aircross will soon be available with a mild hybrid powertrain.
Citroën supplies the C5 Aircross in the Netherlands with two plug-in hybrid powertrains. There is a variant that puts out 180 hp and a plug version that kicks it up to 225 hp. Other electrified powertrains are not available in the SUV. At least, not yet. Citroën brings a new mild-hybrid powertrain to the C5 Aircross for the model.
The new variant of the C5 Aircross is called Citroën C5 Aircross Hybrid 136 in full. It has a 136 hp and 230 Nm strong 1.2 PureTech three-cylinder petrol engine on board. What makes the C5 Aircross a mild hybrid? It has a 48v 432 Wh battery and a new six-speed automatic transmission with double clutch and an integrated electric motor. The transmission listens to the name ë-DCS6 and has a 28 hp and 55 Nm strong electric motor.
About 40 percent of the parts of the 136 hp 1.2 Puretech are new compared to the well-known 130 hp variant. Thanks to the electric motor, the C5 Aircross can also drive fully electrically at low loads. According to Citroën, the mild hybrid 1.2 is about 15 percent more economical than the 130 hp non-mild hybrid 1.2 PureTech with eight-speed automatic transmission. The Citroën C5 Aircross Hybrid 136 will be available internationally in the well-known Feel, Feel Pack, Shine and Shine Pack versions.
The Citroën C5 Aircross Hybrid 136 is also coming to the Netherlands, the Dutch importer confirms to AutoWeek. More information about this will follow soon.
