Second-hand car prices stabilizing

Used car prices have recently skyrocketed, but the average asking prices of second-hand cars seem to be stabilising. Sales platform AutoScout24 concludes this based on an analysis of its figures.

In May this year, a second-hand car was for sale on AutoScout24 for an average of €24,642. A considerable amount. The average asking price of a used car on the car sales site in May was therefore a hefty €2,537 – 11.5 percent – higher than in the same month last year. Still, there is some good news. Used car prices appear to be stabilizing.

Between January and May, the average asking price of a used car offered on AutoScout24 rose by €123 (+0.5 percent). In the same period last year, a price increase of no less than €1,093 was observed (+5.2 percent). According to Autoscout24, this is mainly due to a growing supply of second-hand cars. In May this year, the second-hand offer on the sales site increased by more than 7.5 percent compared to the beginning of this year.

Recently, Automotive MediaVentions, the parent company of, among others, Gaspead.nl and Autotrack.nl, shed light on its May figures. It showed that the average asking price of used cars on Gaspead.nl and Autotrack.nl in May was €24,005.
