Ford Transit gets new infotainment and may be loaded more heavily

The Ford Transit gets a subtle refresher for the new model year, which brings important news, especially in the field of infotainment. However, there are also some technical improvements for the popular orderer, which increase the maximum load weight, among other things.

Ford is updating the Transit introduced in 2014 and facelifted in 2018 with a model year update. The innovation is most noticeable in the interior. There is now a 12-inch infotainment screen on which Ford’s Sync 4 system works. In front of you you will find a digital instrument panel with a diameter of 8 inches. If you want to keep the infotainment up-to-date, you can now do so with over-the-air updates thanks to a 5G modem. The Ford Transit also gets Delivery Assist. This supports, for example, parcel deliverers in their work; the Transit can then switch on the hazard lights itself in park position and lock all doors, except the driver’s door and the door that the delivery person wants to use to access packages.

There are also some technical improvements. For example, the front-wheel drive Transits get a new eight-speed automatic transmission, which allows the Transit to be loaded with a total vehicle weight of 4,250 kg. With a trailer, the combination may weigh 6,000 kg. That is respectively 750 kg and 1,750 kg more than before. In addition, there will be a new front axle for the front-wheel drive Transit, which will increase the carrying weight on the front axle from 1,850 to 2,000 kg. According to Ford, this can be especially beneficial if you want to hang something heavy, such as a horse trailer or a low loader behind the Transit. Those who are enthusiastic about the revised Ford Transit will have to wait a little longer. The first deliveries are not expected until next summer.
