Now that Apollo has retired for Reddit, we’ll have to do it again with the original Reddit app. Fortunately, there is already a good alternative: Sink It for Reddit!
Apollo for Reddit quits
Since June 30, Apollo has been forced to go black for Reddit. This is due to a new regulation Reddit, because Reddit’s leadership has chosen not to continue to support third-party apps. Instead, the company has decided to charge a lot of money for API access, which was previously free.
As a result, the developer of Apollo would have to pay about $ 20 million annually for the app. That is virtually impossible, which is why Apollo has now stopped. A huge shame, of course, because Apollo was one of the most popular apps for Reddit. Fortunately, there is now a good alternative, since recently Sink It for Reddit can be installed in the App Store. These are the benefits of the app.
This is how Sink It works for Reddit
Sink It for Reddit is basically an extension for Safari. The app makes the web version of Reddit a lot more user-friendly on the iPhone, so you are no longer dependent on the Reddit app for iOS. Once you’ve downloaded Sink It for Reddit, you’ll need to first allow the app in your iPhone’s settings. It goes like this:
- Open ‘Settings’ on your iPhone;
- Go to ‘Safari > Extensions’;
- Tap “Sink It”;
- Turn on the switch behind ‘Allow extensions’;
- Finally, choose ‘Allow’ at Reddit under ‘Permissions’.
Then choose at Sink It yourself which settings you prefer when using Reddit. The biggest advantage of the extension is that the bar, which refers to Reddit’s app, disappears when you visit the website. So you can use the Reddit webpage without any problem. In addition to that, the app also adds additional features such as removing posts promoted on Reddit.
Sink It is free to install
The new app for Reddit is free to install in the App Store. Apollo for Reddit also had a paid version, but Sink It for Reddit does not (yet) have it. If you use Reddit regularly, Sink It is an absolute must, especially since you are no longer dependent on Reddit’s iOS app. After all, this app is known for not being very user-friendly on the iPhone.

Sink It doesn’t yet run as smoothly as Apollo does for Reddit, but it’s already a huge improvement over Reddit’s web version. Sink It for Reddit is also free, so there is really no reason not to download the app. This makes Reddit a lot more fun to use, especially for iPhone users.
