Fiat 600e – Back to Basics

The new Fiat 600e can be described as the electric alternative to the Fiat 500X. This also makes it a more spacious and especially higher variant of the Fiat 500e. For an electric crossover, its starting price of €35,990 is not that crazy, but what do you get for exactly that amount?

The merger of PSA and FCA under the name Stellantis means one very important thing for Europe: PSA’s electric B-segment platform will be milked to the last drop. The electric versions of the Peugeot 2008 and Opel Mokka Electric have already been joined by the Jeep Avenger and the Fiat 600e, while everything indicates that an Alfa Romeo on this basis is also on the way. Blame the French and Italians, because this just works in Europe. Those who are not yet ready for EVs can also opt for petrol versions of most of the models mentioned. In the case of the Jeep Avenger, these followed some time after the electric variant, but the Fiat 600 is currently only available – and only just – in electric form. It costs €35,990 and is therefore clearly cheaper than the electric Jeep Avenger (from €39,500) and the electric Peugeot 2008 (from €38,970). The Opel Mokka Electric is also more expensive at €36,999, although the price difference is still not too bad.

We can also imagine that you would rather go for the charming Fiat, because that nice retro appearance is of course standard. Fiat has also promised not to offer gray cars anymore and is keeping its word with the 600e. The only free color is a red simply called Rosso. Would you rather have something boring? Don’t worry: white and black are outside Fiat’s promise and are still available, albeit after leaving an extra 700 euros behind. So we’re not going to do that. This immediately gives us the entire color palette for the basic version of the Fiat 600e, which with the name Red shows the preference for a certain signal color. The only other version of the 600e for the time being is the La Prima, a more luxurious variant that increases the price to €40,990. That car is available in more colors, but not in Rosso. When you see a bright red 600 you immediately know what kind of meat you have in store. There are more hints. For example, the Red has 16-instead of 18-inch alloys, namely steel ones. The necessary chrome is also missing and the Red does without ‘privacy glass’. However, every 600 simply has LED headlights, taillights and even fog lights.

The color red also plays a major role in the interior. That is not a choice here, because a black or white Red also has a red dashboard and red stitching. A 10.25-inch touchscreen is standard, as is mood lighting, automatic climate control, parking sensors, a rain sensor and cruise control. Yet we also miss the necessary things. For example, the Fiat 600e Red does not have a reversing camera, the exterior mirrors are neither heated nor electrically foldable, there is no keyless entry and there is no seat heating. The La Prima not only offers luxury such as an electrically adjustable driver’s seat and a nicer finish, but also practical features such as a double loading floor for the luggage compartment and driving aids that are standard with some other cars in this class. Dressing with separate options is not yet possible, so it is a case of ‘all or nothing’.
