McLaren is working hard on a successor for the Sports Series. The replacement of the 540, 570 and 600 stretches its legs, disguised as the current Sports Series.
From the 540C to the 600LT, the Sports Series from McLaren has had the same basis since 2015. The car that was then unveiled as 570S will have a sequel somewhere next year with a completely new model, which we pass by in these spy pictures, although we don’t see much yet. At first glance, we still have to deal with the current Sports Series, but this is a mule, an example with all the new technology underneath the skin that is enveloped in the old carriage.
As can also be seen from the car itself, this is a hybrid. That is entirely as expected. With the P1, McLaren already has its first hybrid in house, but the intention is that such a powertrain for more models becomes the basis. Nearly a year ago, a 720S (Super Series) was spotted with a hybrid powertrain and now the brand new Sports Series is partly electrically on the road.
Although we cannot say anything about the appearance of the new Sports Series based on these photos, it appears that something new is already being covered in the interior. A considerably timbered dashboard hides a completely new classified cockpit. It may take a while before there is more to see at all. After all, the Sports Series will first be expanded with the 620R. We do not expect the completely new basis for the Sports Series before 2021.
