AirDrop on Windows: how to share files between iPhone and PC

AirDrop is a real loss on Windows, but with this app you can easily share files between your iPhone and a Windows PC!

AirDrop in Windows

We use it every day in the iPhoned editorial office: AirDrop. Just send a screenshot, or a text file, or a link or… what not? But as soon as we get behind a Windows computer, it becomes a bit awkward. Because how do you get a file from your iPhone or Mac to a Windows computer, or vice versa, if AirDrop is missing?

Fortunately, there is now a super handy program for that: LocalSend. This allows you to send files back and forth between Windows, Linux, Android, macOS, iOS and iPadOS in no time. In other words: between almost all devices. And it works very easily.

LocalSend: how to use it

First you need to install LocalSend on your devices. This works normally on the iPhone, iPad and Mac via the App Store. On Android you do this with the Play Store. And on Windows and Linux you download the app via this Github page – grab ‘windows-x86-64.msix’ for the easiest installation.

Once installed, open LocalSend on both devices, give the app permission to use your local network, and you’re good to go. You should immediately see the other device appear in the overview. Just select a file or photo, and tap the receiving device from the list. It will then be sent immediately!

AirDrop on Windows: even easier

Sending a file from your iPhone or iPad can be even easier. Because when you press the share button in an app, for example in Photos, LocalSend immediately appears in the list of apps with which you can share the photo. This works in just about every app!

Also good to know: you can set the app to continue running in the background in the settings of LocalSend on Windows and Mac. Then your computer is constantly accessible, just like with AirDrop. Very useful if you send a lot of files to it.
