Alpine A290

The day after our spy photographer spotted the Alpine A290 in the far north, the manufacturer itself shared a clearer image of its Benjamin.

We eagerly await the unveiling of the brand new electric Renault 5, but at the same time we are already shifting our attention to Alpine’s creation on that basis. Later this year, the Alpine A110 will be joined by the Alpine A290, in fact a sporty R5. Alpine is currently busy with winter tests with the A290 and immediately conducted an extensive photo and video shoot with it.

Alpine itself shows a bit more than we could observe on another specimen last week. For example, the spotlights are not camouflaged. Furthermore, the rear lights are a bit more visible and we get a preview of a blue shade that will soon be available on the A290. The latter is not a big surprise in itself, it seems to be the same color that you often see on the A110.

The Alpine A290 obviously shares its basis with the new Renault 5, but has, among other things, a slightly wider track width. It is slightly longer overall than the R5, although this is undoubtedly purely due to the thicker bumper. The A290 is 3.99 meters long, the R5 3.92 meters. Furthermore, Alpine reports that the A290 is 1.82 meters wide and 1.52 meters high. The wheelbase is 2.53 meters and that is undoubtedly the same as the R5. Count on around 220 hp of power, which reaches the road via the front wheels. The Alpine A290 will be unveiled in June.
