Use podcast transcripts to read along live with your favorite podcast

Currently only available in English, German, French and Spanish

Since iOS 17.4, iPadOS 17.4 and macOS Sonoma 14.4, you can use live transcripts in the Podcasts apps. This is the written text of what can be heard in the podcast. Unfortunately, the function does not yet work in Dutch, but other popular languages are supported.

You can use Podcasts transcripts in English, German, French and Spanish, among others. The function uses artificial intelligence (AI) and ensures that you can read live what is said in the podcast.

Use podcast transcripts

  1. Play a podcast in a supporting language
  2. Tap the media player to view it full screen
  3. Start the transcript by tapping the speech bubble
  4. The text is displayed

On a Mac you can activate the transcripts in the media player or click on the three dots next to the episode information. Then select ‘View transcript’.

The text is automatically highlighted when the speaker is speaking and you can read live while also hearing the story. You will be notified if a transcript is not (yet) available.

Search in transcript

While viewing the transcript, swipe up on the screen to view the text full screen or use the search function. You can then easily search the text for a specific sentence, word or moment.

Read podcast as e-book

Would you rather view the text in its entirety without it moving automatically? Then you can also activate the full view as an e-book. Tap the circle with three dots at the top and choose ‘View transcript’.

Automatically generated

With the help of artificial intelligence, the speech is converted into text, which also works retroactively. So old episodes also have a transcription. With a new episode it may take a while before the text is visible. Unfortunately, it is unclear when the Dutch language will be added.
