With airtag you will never have to look for your things for a long time. You can detect the tracker via the search my app, but that is only possible the owner. At first it was not possible to share your airtag with family, but this has changed from iOS 17, iPados 17 and MacOS Sonoma.
This allows Apple’s Tracker to be used by several people, not only your family members, but also other users with an Apple ID. Under iOS 16, iPados 16, MacOS Ventura or earlier, the object could only be used by one person. Unlike almost all other Apple products, the airtag was the strange duck. The AirPods, iPhone, Mac, Apple Watch, etc. of your family members can be viewed as standard in the search my app, but with AirTags it is not the case.
Share airtag with family
Through the search my application you can share an airtag or other search my accessories with a maximum of five other people from the aforementioned software updates. This can be your family members, but also other users with an Apple ID who do not participate in ‘share with family’.
- Open the search my app
- Navigate to the ‘Objects’ tab
- Tap or click on an accessory
- For ‘Deel’, choose Add person ‘
- Select ‘Continue’ and add one to a maximum of five people
- Send the invitation
The guests receive an invitation to add the object to the search my app. Then they can consult the location, search for the accessory or engage the lost mode.
An additional advantage: users will no longer receive stalking reports when, for example, they bring an airtag when it is shared. This was the case in previous versions because an object could only be used by one person.
View objects
You can view all your shared devices via the ‘Objects’ tab in the search Mijn-app. Apple has divided the display into ‘parts I have shared’ and ‘parts that have been shared with me. As a guest you can also apply all the function that the owner has. Think of playing sound, viewing serial number, battery status, etc.
Conditions Share objects
If you want to share an airtag or other search my accessory, this is only possible from a device with at least iOS 17, iPados 17 or macOS Sonoma. Moreover, the users with whom you want to share the object must also have a device with the latest software update.
