Oppo Reno11 F vs iPhone 15 Plus: a formidable competitor?

Oppo has launched the Reno11 F, a modern mid-range device with a good camera. In this article you can read how the Oppo Reno11 F compares to the iPhone 15 Plus.

Oppo is convinced that you will have a relatively long time with the new one Reno11 F can do. Anyone who buys this device from Oppo will receive a four-year warranty on the battery. If the battery falls below 80 percent capacity during the first four years, you will receive a new battery from Oppo.

Although Apple does not provide a similar warranty on the battery, it is likely that the performance of the iPhone 15 Plus battery will be comparable. Just like the dimensions and size of the screen of the two devices. That’s where the similarities end. We have listed the most important differences for you.

The housing

The dimensions of the housings are almost the same, but it is striking that the iPhone 15 Plus is 24 grams heavier than the Oppo Reno11 F (201 g vs 177 g). In addition, the Oppo is dust and water resistant according to the IP65 standard and the iPhone according to the IP68 standard. This means that you can briefly submerge the iPhone without worry, but not the Oppo.

The screen

Both devices have a 6.7-inch screen. That of the Oppo has a maximum brightness of 1100 nits, that of the iPhone a maximum of 2000 nits. The iPhone screen can therefore be quite a bit brighter, which ensures that you can still see everything on the screen in full sunlight. The Oppo is also left behind in terms of resolution. It has a resolution of 1080 x 2412 pixels, that of the iPhone 1290 x 2796 pixels. This provides a pixel density of 394 ppi on the Oppo and 460 ppi on the iPhone. Images on the iPhone are a lot sharper. The screen vs. housing ratio is 89.8% for the Reno11 F and 88.0% for the iPhone 15 Plus. The edges of the Oppo are therefore a fraction thinner.

CPU, storage space and working memory

The Oppo Reno11 F is equipped with an octa-core processor (2x 2.6 GHz Cortex-A78 & 6x 2.0 GHz Cortex-A55). In the iPhone 15 Plus we find a Hexa-core (2x 3.46 GHz Everest + 4x 2.02 GHz Sawtooth). You would think that the iPhone 15 would perform worse here, but no, the A16 Bionic is many times more powerful than the Oppo’s chip.

The Reno 11 F has 256 GB of storage space and 8 GB of RAM as standard, but the amount of storage space can be expanded with a microSDXC card. The iPhone does not have a card slot, but offers the following choices: 128 GB, 256 GB and 512 GB – always combined with 6 GB of RAM. The iPhone has slightly less RAM, but the iOS operating system also requires less RAM – unless you want to perform particularly demanding tasks.

Cameras

The Oppo Reno11 F has three cameras, the iPhone 15 Plus has two. The cameras you will find on the Oppo are: a 64 MP wide angle (f/1.7 and 25mm), an 8 MP ultra-wide angle (f/2.2 and 16mm) and a 2 MP macro (f/2.4). The cameras on the iPhone 15 Plus are: a 48 MP wide angle (f/1.6 and 26mm), and a 12 MP ultra-wide angle (f/2.4 and 13mm). The selfie camera on the Oppo is a 32 MP wide angle (f/2.4 and 22mm), and on the iPhone a 12 MP wide angle (f/1.9 and 23mm).

What is striking about the cameras is that the Oppo Reno11 F has a few more megapixels, but lags behind when it comes to large apertures (a small f/-number represents a larger aperture).

Once again the Oppo seems to win on paper, and yet we assume that the image quality of the iPhone 15 will ultimately be better. After all, the iPhone camera has been in the charts of the best smartphone cameras for years – the Oppo still has to prove itself here.

Battery

The battery of the Oppo Reno11 F, with a capacity of 5000 mAh, is somewhat more powerful than that of the iPhone 15 Plus (4383 mAh). As mentioned, the performance will not be inferior to each other. Time and again we notice that an iPhone with a less powerful battery lasts longer than an Android with a more powerful battery. This is mainly because the hardware and software of an iPhone are better coordinated. The Oppo does charge a bit faster (100% in 48 minutes vs 50% in 30 minutes), although that is purely based on the manufacturers’ specifications.

Other differences

Other differences that stand out include Face ID on the iPhone and a fingerprint scanner on the Oppo. Given the more mediocre security of facial recognition on Android, a fingerprint sensor may be the better choice for Oppo.

Of course, the iPhone runs on iOS and the Oppo on Android and the available colors also differ. The Oppo Reno11 F is available in Coral Purple, Ocean Blue and Palm Green (but only in Palm Green in the Netherlands), the iPhone is available in black, blue, green, yellow and pink.

Finally, there is a considerable price difference. The Oppo Reno11 F is currently available for 449 euros. You now pay 939 euros for an iPhone 15 Plus.

Conclusion: Oppo Reno11 F vs iPhone 15 Plus

The Oppo Reno11 F is an excellent mid-range device with a powerful battery and good cameras. The front of the device consists largely of a screen and you can expand the storage capacity with a memory card. Moreover, the Oppo is a lot cheaper than the iPhone 15 Plus.

But in all other respects, the Oppo Reno11 F cannot keep up with the iPhone 15 Plus. And that makes sense for a device that is so much cheaper.
