Still more than potent
With the Onvo L60, which is also coming to Europe, Nio is adding what it says is a ‘much for little’ SUV to its portfolio. We can now tell you more about that interestingly positioned new electric SUV.
In May, the world was introduced to the first car from Nio’s brand new Onvo brand: the L60. Nio says it will carry models under the Onvo brand name that should offer a lot of value for money. Nio has not yet released detailed technical specifications about the Onvo L60. However, Onvo’s CEO indicated that ‘electric family cars should not be racing cars’. In doing so, the CEO responded to Onvo’s intention to keep its models relatively affordable by not packing them with beastly capabilities that enable intense performance. How powerful is the Onvo L60? That was still a mystery, but AutoWeek can now answer that question.
We have found more information about the Onvo L60 in the database of the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. What seems? The Onvo L60 does not seem to have any unusual muscle bundles, but it is also far from being a wimp. There will be a rear-wheel drive variant that produces 326 hp and that seems to be the entry-level model for the time being. The 326 hp variant weighs 1,885 kilos and should be able to reach a speed of 200 km/h. But Onvo also sees room for a more powerful variant with four-wheel drive. In addition to the 326 hp electric motor at the rear, it has a 136 hp powerful electric heart that drives the front wheels. That would possibly give it a system power of 462 hp. Not exactly childish either. The more or less comparable EL6 from parent brand Nio in terms of size, for example, always produces 489 hp and 700 Nm in the Netherlands. The Onvo L60 with four-wheel drive is not far away from that.
The 4.83 meter long Onvo L60 has a wheelbase of 2.95 meters and is comparable in size and appearance to cars such as the Tesla Model Y. According to Onvo, there will be a version with what it calls an ‘Ultra Long Range’ mentions battery. This is probably the 150 kWh battery that parent brand Nio also has on the shelf. There will also be versions with a range of 555 and 730 kilometers. For the last two, count on the presence of Nio’s well-known 75 kWh and 100 kWh battery packs. The Onvo L60 is also coming to Europe.
