The lawyers of fallen CEO Carlos Ghosn pleaded on Monday in Amsterdam for the release of internal documents from Nissan and Mitsubishi. This must contain details about the reasons for his dismissal. This is the first hearing in the case that the former president has filed against the car brands.
The fallen Alliance executive said he had not had a chance of a fair trial since he was accused and arrested in the fall of 2018. For more than a year, Ghosn was detained in Japan, but fled the country around the last holidays. This is because, according to him, the Japan legal system is aimed at enforcing debt confessions.
The former chairman of the alliance between Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi has filed the case in the Netherlands against his former employers – of whom Nissan-Mitsubishi BV is registered in the Netherlands – because his dismissal would have been illegal. The resignation would only be intended to prevent Renault and Nissan from further integration.
15 million
Ghosn is requesting compensation of 15 million euros from the automakers, who allegedly violated Dutch labor laws. “Nissan and Mitsubishi have publicly nailed Ghosn to shame,” said one of his lawyers on Monday. “Their reporting and allegations did not go to Ghosn. There was no fair trial.”
The activities for which Ghosn was tackled would be known to the manufacturers. That would appear from the file. According to the lawyer, the data from the internal investigation file that the car brands have built up about Ghosn are therefore indispensable for a full discussion about the legality of his dismissal. “Mr. Ghosn is ready for a fight.”
