Apple released iPadOS 18 on Monday, September 16, but has now pulled the update for some iPads. These devices can no longer update.
Problems with iPadOS 18
Have you already installed iPadOS 18? Then it is quite possible that you have recently experienced problems with your iPad. These problems are so serious that Apple has decided that iPadOS 18 is temporarily unavailable for a number of devices. Some iPads no longer turn on after installing the update. The devices no longer respond and cannot be turned on via the computer.
The problems occur with iPads that run on the new M4 chip. These are the 11- and 13-inch iPad Pro 2024. Apple released the tablets in the spring, but they are now no longer working properly. Do you have one of these iPads? Then it is no longer possible to update to iPadOS 18 for the time being. Apple has only withdrawn iPadOS 18 for the iPad Pro 2024, other iPads can still update. iPadOS 17.7 can be installed for the iPad Pro.
iPad must be returned
Apple has not yet officially responded to the problems with iPadOS 18. The fact that the company has now (partially) withdrawn the update confirms that there are problems. New software versions are rarely taken offline by Apple. If this does happen, many users are probably affected by the software error. Moreover, the problem is very big, because the iPad that is stuck by iPadOS 18 is virtually unusable.
As far as is known, there is no solution yet for users with an unusable iPad Pro 2024. In most cases, the device must be sent to Apple itself for repair. It is not yet clear whether the tablet will be repaired there or must be reset to factory settings. Apple is probably working hard on a solution and will soon re-release iPadOS 18 for the iPad Pro 2024.
More about iPadOS 18
The problems with iPadOS 18 are currently only occurring with the iPad Pro with an M4 chip. Has your iPad completely crashed after the update? Then it is advisable to contact Apple or go to a local Apple Store. If you have an iPad without an M4 chip, you can update to iPadOS 18 without any problems, it seems that the update works properly on other devices.
Apple brings several new features to the tablet with iPadOS 18. For the first time, the iPad has a dedicated calculator app, allowing you to perform even complex mathematical calculations on the tablet.
