1. Camera controller
There is a completely new button on the iPhone 16 devices: the camera control. This makes your iPhone almost look like a real camera. It is useful that the button is touch sensitive. This gives it multiple uses.
Press it and you open the Camera app. Press again and you take a photo. Before you do that, there are a lot of settings that you can adjust with the button. These are photos and videos with depth. Later you view them through VR glasses or the Vision Pro with a 3D effect. Taking photos with this effect is completely new, videos were already possible.
3. Upgraded ultra-wide angle lens
The main lens is unchanged, but the ultra-wide-angle lens has been updated. The aperture has become larger and it now has autofocus. Moreover, it takes better wide-angle photos in low light. The more advanced iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max can now even take photos of up to 48 megapixels with this lens.
Furthermore, you can take macro photos with the regular iPhone camera for the first time. These are close-up photos and the mode is automatically turned on when you bring the camera close to the subject.

4. Photographic styles have been improved
It has been possible to use photographic styles for some time, but Apple has improved the function. Photographic styles determine the style of the photo you take. You could already choose ‘Rich contrast’ or ‘Vibrant’.
With the iPhone 16 series you get more control over this. You choose more subtle styles or customize a style completely to your liking. Even after a photo has been taken, the photographic style can still be adjusted.
5. Visual Intelligence
Point the camera at something you want more information about and briefly press the camera control. You will then see the results on your screen. For example, you can go to the garden center to find out how to best care for a particular plant or what type of breed that beautiful dog is that you encounter in the park.
Apple Intelligence is widely applicable in the photo field. This is how you edit your photos until they are perfect. Remove or move objects, adjust your background or create completely new images based on a short text. These features will come to all iPhone 16 models later with a software update.
