The well-known American name Hummer will be revived next year. Not only the Hummer returns, the Humvee destined for the American army could also make a comeback.
At the beginning of this year, GMC announced that the rumors of the past years are correct: the Hummer returns. It will not be the same story, because it is now a model name of GMC and no longer a separate brand. However, the biggest change from the past is in the technical field. The gas-guzzling Hummers of yesteryear are definitely a thing of the past: the new Hummer becomes fully electric.
Anyone who thinks that this precludes the return of the Humvee – the military version of the Hummer intended for the military – is wrong. None other than General Motors’ Defense chief David Albritton definitely sees opportunities. “It is a ‘full size truck’ with 640 km range and 1,300 Nm of torque, so that is a great basis for an EV for military use,” Albritton told GM Authority. He cannot say yet how concrete this is at the moment. But: “We try to put ourselves as a company in that position, so that we can deliver it when necessary.”
First wait for the unveiling of the Hummer intended for private use. It would actually be shown to the general public in May, but that was postponed because of the corona pandemic. GMC was kind enough to share all the above teaser images. It clearly shows that the new Hummer is completely contemporary, while at the same time also a nod to the past.
