The next iPad Air will be even faster and will have an M3 chip. But that’s not the only upgrade this tablet will get.
iPad Air gets M3 chip (and more)
The latest iPad Air with an M2 chip was presented by Apple on May 7. The biggest changes to the current version of the iPad Air were the new M2 chip and its dimensions.

There are already several rumors about the next iPad Air. This new version of the tablet will then have an M3 chip. This chip is a lot faster than the chip in the iPad Air 2024, but it is still inferior to the M4 chip that you find in the iPad Pro 2024.
The new iPad Air should be released sometime in the spring of 2025. That is striking, because with the previous releases there were always about 18 to 24 months in between. Now it’s only about 12 months.
New screen for iPad Air 2025
The M3 chip is of course not the only change Apple is planning. Rumors also say that the screen is being overhauled. The current screen can refresh up to 60Hz (or 60 frames per second). The iPad Pro’s screen is better and has a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz with ProMotion.
The new iPad Air (2025) is rumored to have an LCD screen that can go up to 90Hz. According to these rumors, this screen will also come to the iMac and the next Studio Display.

Face ID
Usually reliable Apple expert Mark Gurman believes that another upgrade for the iPad Air 2025 could also be Face ID. He added that Apple should not make the Air look too much like the iPad Pro again. Face ID would be a nice addition, but whether it will ever come to the iPad Air remains a mystery.
Other upgrades
You should take the following rumors with a grain of salt. But judging by the upgrades other Apple products have received, the iPad Air 2025 can still expect this.
- 600 nits of brightness for every iPad Air (the current 11-inch iPad Air is now 500 nits);
- Support for WiFi 7;
- A flash on the back;
- Thunderbolt support;
- Better microphones.
