Rumors predict that the iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro Max will have a modified design. These changes are coming!
iPhone 17 Pro
Now that the iPhone 16 has been released, more is slowly becoming clear about the next generation of the smartphone. Four new iPhones will reportedly be released next year, with the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max expected. The iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro Max in particular will receive a modified design, because rumors predict that Apple will say goodbye to the titanium casing.
Instead, the Pro models will be made of aluminum next year, just like the regular iPhones. It is striking that Apple has made this choice, because the titanium edges were introduced with the iPhone 15 Pro (Max). That wasn’t very long ago, but it seems that we don’t see the titanium parts in the design of the iPhone 17 Pro. This reportedly has to do with the new camera island of the next iPhone.
Renewed camera island
The camera island on the iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro Max becomes slightly larger and takes on a rectangular shape. On the iPhone 16 Pro (Max) it is made of glass, but on the next iPhone the glass will be replaced by aluminum. The background is therefore only partly made of glass. This is an important change in the design of the iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
It is still unclear why Apple is adjusting the camera island of the iPhone 17 Pro (Max). This may have to do with a new camera mechanism that controls the aperture of the lenses. It is the first time that an iPhone has had this mechanism, so it may require more space in the device’s housing. Apple is therefore forced to adjust the design of the iPhone 17 Pro (Max).
More about the design of the iPhone 17 Pro
If the rumors are true, this is the first iPhone in years that does not have a completely glass back. This may affect the wireless charging of the phone, because it mainly takes place via the glass housing. Other changes to the design of the iPhone 17 Pro (Max) include thinner screen edges and a more compact Dynamic Island. So you have more space on the iPhone’s display.
Both the iPhone 17 (Air) and the iPhone 17 Pro (Max) will probably have an aluminum casing next year. The differences in the design of the iPhone 17 and the iPhone 17 Pro are therefore smaller. Apple has been focusing heavily on environmentally friendly products in recent years, so the iPhone 17 with the new casing may be Apple’s first climate-neutral smartphone.
