iOS 18.2: Apple is bringing these iPhone features to the EU

Apple has released iOS 18.2, but many features are not available in the European Union. These features do come to your iPhone.

iOS 18.2

It’s time for an update again! After several test versions, Apple finally rolled out the final version of iOS 18.2 on Wednesday, December 11. This is a major update, especially for users outside the European Union, because various parts of Apple Intelligence are finally available there. Unfortunately, in the Netherlands and Belgium we have to do without these functions, making iOS 18.2 a relatively minor update. We put all the changes together for you!

1. iPhone 16 camera control

Apple is making three changes to the camera control of the iPhone 16. With the new button it is now possible to fix the focus and exposure. Do you often press the camera control twice? From iOS 18.2, you decide how much time there should be between the first and second press. In addition, it is possible to open the Camera app directly with the camera control, even when the iPhone 16 screen is not on.

2. Find my app

The AirTag has a new function from iOS 18.2, because it is possible to temporarily share the location of the tracker via a link. This is especially useful if you have lost the AirTag, with the link companies such as airlines can more easily help you with your search. Apple has already announced that it will collaborate with various airlines, including KLM and Lufthansa.

3. Set maximum volume

With iOS 18.2, Apple has brought a completely new feature to the iPhone, because for the first time it is possible to set a maximum volume. Setting a limit limits the volume of the audio when, for example, you play songs or watch movies. The limit does not affect phone calls, alarm clocks or ringtones. Wondering how to add a volume limit? This goes like this:

  1. Open ‘Settings’ on your iPhone;

  2. Go to ‘Hear and feel’;

  3. Scroll down and choose ‘Volume Limit’;

  4. Turn on the switch behind ‘Limit maximum volume’;

  5. Finally, determine the maximum limit of the volume.

4. Volume bar is back

With iOS 16, Apple removed a useful feature from the iPhone’s lock screen, as the volume bar is no longer visible when you’re playing audio. Apple is changing this with iOS 18.2, you can then enable the volume control again. The bar automatically appears in the media player when you listen to music on Spotify or Apple Music, for example. You enable the volume control under ‘Settings > Accessibility > Audio and visual > Always show volume control’.

5. Changes in the Photos app

Apple is adjusting the Photos app again in iOS 18.2. You no longer have to tap the screen to activate full view when playing videos. You can also disable automatic repeating of videos. Since iOS 18, the photo library also keeps track of your activity for the first time, but you can disable this in the latest iOS version. Read more about the changes to the Photos app here.
