Many people choose to navigate in the car with Google Maps or listen to music via Spotify. With this handy tip you can do both!
Use Google Maps and Spotify at the same time
With this tip, you no longer have to choose between Google Maps and Spotify or Apple Music the next time you get in the car. You use them both at the same time. Of course in a safe way! You do have one subscription to Spotify or Apple Music. We’ll show you how it works.
- Open Google Maps and tap your profile photo at the top right;
- Tap ‘Settings’ and then ‘Navigation’;
- Now tap on ‘Music Playing App’;
- Select your music player and tap ‘Open’.
If you choose Spotify, you will be redirected to the Spotify app to confirm the connection. If you choose Apple Music, you only have to grant access to the media library.
This is how you listen to music
The next time you start navigation in Google Maps, you will see Spotify at the bottom of the screen. This could be in the form of a button that says ‘Continue Playing’. You may also immediately see the image of the last played song, with a few control buttons next to it.
Via the ‘Browse’ button you can go from Maps to the Apple Music or Spotify app. There you can start another album or playlist. That is something that cannot be done directly in Google Maps. Only start, stop, previous song and next song are possible there. While choosing new music, you still temporarily leave the Google Maps app.
Do you prefer Apple Music to Spotify, or do you want to disable the option completely? This is done in the same way as switching it on. Just make your choice in Settings under ‘Music Playing App’.
