Never forgot passwords on your iPhone: this is how you do it

Do you regularly forget important passwords that you need when logging in websites or apps on your iPhone? That’s how you prevent it!

Passwords forgot iPhone

Nowadays you need an account for almost every website or application on your iPhone. In that account there is login details, including your password. To guarantee the safety of your data, it is recommended to create a different password everywhere. In that case it is not a disaster if one of your passwords is involved in a data breach, because with different passwords your other accounts will continue to protect.

Unfortunately, it is not only more difficult for malicious people to guess the different passwords, but also for users themselves. It is important to remember all passwords, although that can sometimes be difficult. Certainly with just three login attempts you do not want your account to be blocked unexpectedly or that you have to make a new password again. Fortunately, Apple has thought of something with the new password app for the iPhone.

Special app for passwords

With iOS 18, Apple introduced the password app for the iPhone. The application is – as the name suggests – intended for storing your passwords. This way you can store your login details from different accounts, which are then automatically entered when logging in. That way you don’t have to remember the passwords, because that does your iPhone for you. Adding passwords to the application is as follows:

  1. Open ‘passwords’ on your iPhone (this is a separate app in iOS 18);

  2. Tap the plus sign (+) at the bottom right;

  3. Enter the website or application with ‘Website or Label’;

  4. Enter your username or e-mail under ‘User’;

  5. Enter your password with ‘Password’

  6. Finally, tap ‘Save’.

It is advisable not to fill in the data in the password app in public, so that you know for sure that nobody is watching unwanted. Make sure you fill in a clear description for ‘Website or Label’ to prevent you from forgetting what the login details are for. Under the user you can also enter a code, depending on the website or app. For example, parking applications often require a code, instead of an email address.

More about the password app

Have you entered the login details for a website or application in the password app? Then your iPhone will automatically give a notification if you try to log in to this website or app. You then only have to enter Face ID, Touch ID or the code of your iPhone to automatically enter the login details. Face ID, Touch ID or the access code of your iPhone are also required to open the password app, so that your data is always well protected.

Apple’s password app has different tablades, which provide information about your passwords. For example, under ‘security’ you see which passwords are involved in a leak, so that you can adjust them as quickly as possible. Are your accounts protected with verification codes? You can also link them to the password app, so that your iPhone automatically fills them in. This way you will never forget your passwords again, because they are in a handy (and safe) overview in the password app.
