Scam in the name of the Tax Authorities via SMS
Everyone probably knows that the tax authorities will never ask for money via SMS. Yet it is very easy to kick in. Before you know it, you have ticked the link and a website appears that really seems to be from the tax authorities. But that is not the case.
The first thing that strikes is that the SMS comes from a 06 number. When you enter that number in Google, you soon see that several people have reported in recent hours that this number is not reliable and even dangerous. That means that the criminals behind this Tax Authorities have sent the same message to random telephone numbers for a while, hoping that someone will fall for it.
No link from the tax authorities
The following that stands out about the SMS message is that the link in the message is not from the Tax Authorities. In this case the link is: https://mijn-Averlstand2025.com/. The word ‘tax authorities’ does not appear at all and that also indicates scams.
If you tap the link, you will end up on a website that looks very much like a website of the Tax Authorities. You see the logo of the tax authorities, a payment characteristic and an invoice number. It is also emphasized that you have to pay today, because otherwise tomorrow the bailiff will immediately confiscate your household effects. That is also a sign on the wall that it is about scams, because the tax authorities always give you plenty of time to pay.
Payment request via a chatbot
When you scroll further on the website you will see a ‘Red Flag’ and that is that the payment will take place through a payment request via a chatbot. Again something that is never the case with the tax authorities.
