iOS 18.4: Handy function for mail prevents you from accidentally opening unread messages

You can easily manage your e-mail messages with the help of Apple’s standard mail application. From iOS 18.4 and iPados 18.4, Apple has added a handy new function that prevents you from accidentally opening unread messages.

When you have opened an e-mail message and you knew or moved it, the following message will be opened as standard. If this is an unread message, it will be marked as read and that may not be the intention. You can adjust this from now on so that you automatically return to the overview.

View the next message is standard and will ensure that the following e-mail message will be opened when you knew or moved the current e-mail. Do you choose ‘Select Do not select a Message’? Then this will ensure that after deleting or moving the current e-mail the overview of all e-mail messages will be opened automatically. So you return to your inbox.

Why adjust?

Setting the message promotion is a good idea when you would like to keep control of your unread e-mail messages. By always returning to the overview, you prevent an e-mail message from accidentally avoiding as read. This is how you maintain control of your inbox
