Both new iPhones will be on the market in September. Based on what we know so far about both upcoming devices, we can already make a comparison. This way you already know in advance which of these two iPhones probably suits you best. To be clear: the comparison is therefore based on expectations!

Housing
Both iPhones are probably about the same size, although the exact dimensions are not yet known. Given the screen size of 6.3 inches, the size will not deviate a lot from the iPhone 16 Pro that also has a screen of 6.3 inches. The dimensions thereof amount to 149.6 x 71.5 x 8.3 mm.
With the iPhone 17 we expect an aluminum frame. The iPhone 17 Pro is said to get a titanium frame. Both iPhones probably have a water resistance according to the IP68-Certification.
Screen
The iPhone 17 and the iPhone 17 Pro probably have the same screen of 6.3 inches. This means that the resolution will also be the same: 1206 x 2622 pixels. It looks forward to applying the Apple Promotion for the first time on the entire new iPhone series this year. This enables all new iPhones to use a refresh rate of 120Hz. The Always-on function will also probably be available on all iPhone 17 models. For example, you still see the time when your iPhone is locked.
Camera
As always, there is a difference in camera between the regular iPhone and the Pro model. The iPhone 17 will probably get a 48-megapixel wide-angle camera with an aperture of f/1.6. That is almost the same as the wide -angle camera of the iPhone 17 Pro, which with f/1.8 has a slightly smaller aperture. In addition, the iPhone 17 Pro has a 5x optical zoom, something that gets stuck with the iPhone 17 at 2x.
In addition, the iPhone 17 has a 12-megapixel ultra-wide angle camera with a diaphragm of f/2.2. That is quite a difference with the ultra -wide corner camera of the iPhone 17 Pro, because it has one of 48 megapixels, also with a diaphragm of f/2.2.
The iPhone 17 Pro then has a third camera with a telephoto lens. That too is one of 48 megapixels. This has an aperture of f/2.8. And we also find a Lidar scanner only on the iPhone 17 Pro. This is a kind of 3D sensor that can detect depth while photographing.
The iPhone 17 probably has a 12-megapixel selfie camera just like the iPhone 16. This time we expect a 24-megapixel selfie camera with the iPhone 17 Pro.
Presetations
The iPhone 17 Pro is logically the fastest of the two. We see that in the processor and the amount of working memory. The iPhone 17 Pro runs on an A19 Pro chip with no less than 12 GB of memory. The ‘regular’ iPhone 17 has to make do with an A19 chip and 8 GB of memory, which is certainly not bad. As always, the Pro model adds an extra scoop.
Battery
Not much is known about the batteries of the two iPhones. Given the similar dimensions of both devices, we also expect no major differences in the size and capacity of the batteries. There are rumors and estimates about the battery life. With the iPhone 17 it would be about 22 hours. The iPhone 17 Pro would even last about 27 hours.

As always, the Pro model has more to offer than the ‘regular’ model. The iPhone 17 Pro has a faster processor, more memory, if desired more storage space, a longer battery life and better camera functions. Partly because Promotion and Always-On now also come to the iPhone 17, the differences are now a bit smaller than before.
If you need better performance, more storage space, a longer battery life and better camera functions, then you choose the iPhone 17 Pro. Whether you are willing to pay a lot more for that is of course very personal. If you only use your iPhone for everyday tasks, then the iPhone 17 is also more than sufficient. In that case you can save some money.
