Spotify introduces Mix
Just update! Spotify has rolled out a new version of the app, in which a button above your playlists is added. With the new button your playlists get a handy function. It becomes possible to merge songs in smoother ways. Spotify calls this ‘mix’, with which different songs merge better. The rhythm and pace of the two songs are taken into account.
Does this function seem familiar to you? That is quite possible, because Apple has announced a similar feature for Apple Music. This is one of the most popular parts of iOS 26, but from now on you no longer need Apple Music for that. Even before the release of Apple’s Automix, Spotify has already introduced a similar part, making Apple Music superfluous. This is how the new button works in Spotify.

In the most recent version of Spotify you get a new button above every playlist. Do you want the songs of the playlist to merge better? Then tap on ‘Mix’, the different songs then automatically merge more smoothly. Spotify takes into account parts such as the pace and the beat, so that the mix function works better with songs that have a similar rhythm.
Are you not satisfied with the result of the new Mix-Feature? In that case you can also set yourself under ‘Mix> Auto’ how songs merge. Spotify offers the opportunity to adjust the transition between songs itself. To do that, the music service shows the rhythm of the different songs among each other, so that you can make the audio smoothly overflow. This is a big advantage of Spotify, because Apple Music does not (yet) offer this option.
Update now available
Have you made your own transition via the new button in Spotify? You can save this so that your playlist gets a personalized ‘mix’. You can even share a mixed playlist with other users, the personalized transitions between songs can also be heard by others. You do need Spotify Premium for that, because the mix tool is only available for paying users.
Spotify is now rolling out the new version of the application for all users around the world. Do you not see the new button in Spotify yet? Then make sure you update the Spotify via the App Store.
