It has been a while since Apple announced the new generation of CarPlay. In May 2025, Apple CarPlay Ultra presented, which is an enormous update for the operating system. With CarPlay Ultra you get access to many more functions of the car, so you can also control the radio and temperature via the operating system. For this, the car brand must provide support for CarPlay Ultra.
At the moment only a small number of cars with CarPlay Ultra work. There are none for the general public, because it is about car brands as Aston Martin. As a result, CarPlay Ultra can now only be used in cars with a starting price of around 200,000 euros, but that will change soon. According to Top Gear, Hyundai will soon be coming with an affordable car, which offers support for CarPlay Ultra.
Hyundai Ioniq 3
Hyundai works on the IONIQ 3, the new electric car of the company. This is said to be the first car of that car brand with support for CarPlay Ultra. That is not all, because this will also be the first electric car that works with CarPlay Ultra. There are no electric cars that work with the new generation of the operating system. Instead, manufacturers increasingly opt for their own software in new (electric) cars.
That does not apply to Hyundai, because the car brand will soon announce the IONIQ 3 with support for CarPlay Ultra. It is expected that the new electric car will be presented during an event in Munich. That event takes place from September 9 to September 14. That week we know more about Hyundai’s new car and whether it does indeed work with CarPlay Ultra.

Hyundai probably brings the Ioniq 3 to the market for around 35,000 euros. That is still a considerable amount, but is a big difference with the cars in which CarPlay Ultra can now be used. It is still unclear whether CarPlay Ultra will also come to other cars from the car brand. We may hear more about that next week, when Hyundai presents the new car in Munich.
