Just update! A new software version for WhatsApp is available. In the renewed version of WhatsApp, all messages get a new function. WhatsApp receives support for translating text messages. In this way, the messaging service wants to make it easier to allow users from different countries to communicate with each other. Do you get a message in a foreign language? That is no longer a problem with the new translation function of WhatsApp.
WhatsApp offers support on the iPhone for translating texts into nineteen languages. These include Dutch, English, French, German, Portuguese, Spanish and Mandarin. Do you have friends or colleagues abroad, with which you regularly exchange messages in WhatsApp? Then from now on you can communicate in your mother tongue, because WhatsApp automatically translates all messages with the new function.

In the latest version of WhatsApp, it is possible to translate messages in private chats, group discussions and channels. Converting the messages to another language is done locally on your iPhone, so that they remain encrypted. That way you know for sure that nobody can read your translated messages, not even WhatsApp or Apple. Do you want to translate a message? For example, the new function works with all messages in WhatsApp:
- Open ‘WhatsApp’ on your iPhone;
- Choose a private chat, group conversation or channel;
- Go to a text message;
- Hold down this message;
- Finally tap ‘Translate’.
With the new function you can select in WhatsApp in which language a message is written and to which language you want to convert the text. It is also possible to download language packages, so that you can translate messages quickly in the future. WhatsApp on the iPhone offers support for nineteen languages, on the Android that is a lot less with only six languages. In the future, more languages ​​may be added with an update.

Unfortunately, it is not yet possible to translate all messages in WhatsApp as standard. Instead, you must hold down each text message and convert it separately to another language. WhatsApp for Android offers this possibility, so there is a good chance that the version for iOS will also automatically translate all texts soon. In any case, it is a handy function that makes all messages in WhatsApp even better.
Certainly if your friends or colleagues speak abroad via WhatsApp, the function is a handy addition. It is no longer necessary to have these conversations in English or another common language, because everyone can communicate in their own native language. WhatsApp then translates the text for you, without needing another app for it.
