A new generation of the airtag will be expected soon! It has now been four years since Apple released the airtag. The first version of the airtag was announced on April 20, 2021 and appeared in stores on 30 April 2021. The most important difference between the airtag and the airtag 2 becomes the processor in the device. Where the airtag is equipped with the U1 chip, it will be the newer U2 chip at the airtag 2. The advantage of this Ultra Wideband chip is that the next airtag will have a much larger range. Where you can see the precise distance of the airtag between ten and thirty meters, that area is much greater for the new generation.

According to rumors, the airtag 2 supports carefully search between thirty and ninety meters. That is a big difference with the first generation, because the new version gets a reach that is three times as large. This way you can search for the airtag in a much larger area. For many users this is an important advantage, since the airtag is intended to find things easier. That is no longer a problem with the airtag 2, not even with a great distance.

In addition, Apple improves the privacy of the airtag at the new generation. With the current airtag there have been regular concerns about privacy, because the tracker was used to follow people unsolicited. To prevent this, the speaker of the airtag 2 becomes much more difficult to remove. The speaker makes it possible to quickly detect (strange) airtags, making it incredibly important for users’ privacy.

It is expected that Apple will make small adjustments in the design of the airtag. The speaker is in any case adjusted, so that it is more difficult to remove. In addition, the tracker will probably get a little thinner, to put the device easier in a wallet, for example. Apple also sticks to the same round design with an interchangeable battery.

It is therefore not possible to charge the airtag 2, instead the device works with a button cell battery.
