Smart cameras for rental properties: installation without drilling

If you are looking for a smart camera for your rental home, you probably want to hang it without having to drill. We’ll show you how that works.

Hang smart cameras without drilling

Drilling is something you are not allowed to do in all rental properties. If you want to install a smart camera, you will quickly encounter problems. Fortunately, there are (nowadays) several ways to mount smart cameras!

3M industrial tape

If you want to attach a smart camera to a brick without drilling, you will soon find that: 3M industrial tape. These are sturdy adhesive strips with a strong adhesion. Strong enough to keep light cameras in place. Clean and dry the surface of the brick thoroughly before pressing the adhesive strip.

The TP-Link Tapo C520WS is an affordable smart camera that you can mount in this way. The camera rotates 360 degrees and records in 2K image quality. In the app you can view live images and listen in. You can store images on an SD card, or in the Tapo cloud for a fixed amount per month. The TP-Link Tapo C520WS only costs 55 euros!

Gutter installation

Gutter mounting is also a convenient way to mount your smart camera without drilling. You simply clamp the camera onto it, as it were. An advantage is that this mounting is adjustable, so you can easily move it. These confirmations are a bit difficult to find. But if you look carefully, you will come across them somewhere.

Magnetic attachment

Magnetic mounting allows you to attach a smart camera to a metal surface. This is also a flexible method because you can easily move or remove the camera. Choose this method if you have metal surfaces such as steel beams, metal doors or window frames.

For example, magnetic mounting is very easy with the TP-Link Tapo C460 Solar Kit. Both the base and the camera itself are strongly magnetic, so you can easily and yet firmly attach the whole thing to a metal surface. Only the included solar panel is not magnetic. However, it is so light that you can easily attach it with tape or a tie-wrap, for example. You purchase the TP-Link Tapo C460 Solar Kit 124 euros.

Other methods

There are even more ways to mount your smart camera without having to drill. There are brackets available that fit around a drainpipe, but also handy clamps that you can place almost anywhere. Make sure you hang them high enough so that no one can reach them!
