Kawasaki unveils updated Ninja ZX-10R

Kawasaki has unveiled the completely new Ninja ZX-10R. Although the exact specifications will have to wait a while, Kawasaki hopes to close the gap with the competition with a new aero package, improved handling and modern technology.

Kawasaki unveils updated Ninja ZX-10R

It has never been a real sales force, for that we have to go back to the days of the ZXR, but that does not alter the fact that the Ninja ZX-10R has been an icon in the superbike world for more than twenty years – good for seven WorldSBK titles and countless successes on the track. No model has been as successful as the ZX-10R, but also no model has been in production for as long. With the new generation, Kawasaki continues its legacy, taking performance, control and aerodynamics to an even higher level.

Aerodynamic revolution

The most striking innovation is the completely new aero package, which generates up to 25% more downforce than before. The larger winglets and new chin spoilers improve stability at high speeds and provide more grip and confidence when cornering. Despite these gains in downforce, drag has only increased by 0.3% — an impressive balance between efficiency and speed. The front design is completely new, with compact hybrid LED projector headlights and a centrally mounted Ram Air intake that accentuates the modern Ninja style.

Improved engine and electronics

The 998 cc inline four is now Euro5+ homologated, without losing any character. An additional Oâ‚‚ sensor and more compact catalytic converter ensure cleaner combustion, while the engine still delivers the direct throttle response and explosive top power that the ZX-10R is known for.

Kawasaki equips the motorcycle with a complete arsenal of rider assistance systems, including Kawasaki Traction Control (KTRC), Launch Control, Cornering ABS, Engine Brake Control and the Kawasaki Cornering Management Function (KCMF). There is also an Up/Down Quickshifter and – for the first time standard on the ZX-10R – Cruise Control. Riders can choose from four riding modes: Sport, Road, Rain and a fully configurable Rider mode.

Adapted chassis and bicycle section

The chassis has been refined for even more stability and precision. The swingarm pivot point has been raised 2mm for improved traction under acceleration, while the new rear suspension linkage system and a softer spring rate provide better grip exiting corners.

The Balance Free Front Fork (BFF) and Balance Free Rear Cushion Lite (BFRC) shock, developed together with Kawasaki’s WorldSBK team, have been retuned to work optimally with the improved aerodynamics. A new Öhlins steering damper with twin-tube design provides extra stability, especially at high speeds.

For the brakes, Kawasaki uses Brembo M50 monoblocs with 330mm discs and a radial master brake pump, good for excellent feel and control. The ZX-10R is equipped as standard with Bridgestone Battlax RS12 tires, which provide extra grip and feedback on the street and track.

Modern cockpit design

The all-new 5″ TFT color display brings modern technology to the Ninja platform. It offers voice control, turn-by-turn navigation and smartphone integration via the Rideology App. Riders can adjust or view settings and ride data via two display modes: a classic analog look or a racing interface with lap timer and shift indicator.

The ultimate Ninja: ZX-10RR

For the most demanding riders there is the ZX-10RR, the street-legal racing version of the ZX-10R. This version is equipped with Pankl pistons and titanium connecting rods, good for extremely high speeds and improved responsiveness. The fork legs have a titanium coating for less friction and more precise damping. The RR comes standard with Pirelli Supercorsa V3 tires, steel-braided brake lines and a buddy seat cover.
