Remember the iPod? The popular music player came in all sizes and turned the music world upside down.
iPod has been around for 24 years: the device that changed the music world forever
For years, the iPod was one of Apple’s most popular music players. Thanks to its sleek design and simple operation, the device became a worldwide phenomenon.
At first you could only play music with it. Adjusting or downloading something yourself was not really possible at the time. You had to manually transfer your music tracks via iTunes on your computer (PC or Mac). However, later versions of the iPod added more and more features that made the iPod a lot more versatile.

Since the arrival of the iPhone, the popularity of the iPod slowly began to decline. That actually made sense, because Apple’s smartphone could do everything the iPod did (and more).
The iPod was therefore increasingly seen as a slimmed-down iPhone and the music player had actually become redundant. In the following years, sales slumped and in 2022 Apple decided to permanently stop sales. The page where Apple announced it would stop producing the iPod is still there viewable online.
Marketing manager Greg Joswiak said on Apple’s website that the spirit of the iPod still lives on: ‘All of our products deliver a great music experience. From the iPhone to the Apple Watch and the HomePod mini and on the Mac, iPad and Apple TV. And Apple Music delivers industry-leading sound quality with support for Spatial Audio.”
