App shares millions of data
Be careful if you regularly download new applications from Google Play or the App Store! CovertLabsa body that researches cybersecurity, has published a list of unsafe applications. This list shows that many apps are not careful with your personal data. This mainly concerns applications that work with artificial intelligence, in which a lot of personal data is collected.
In total it has CovertLabs 198 applications examined, of which no fewer than 196 share user data without permission. The application that scores the worst is Chat & Ask AI by Codewaywhich is available for both Apple and Android users. Have you installed this app on your smartphone? You better delete it as soon as possible, because your data is not safe at all with this app.
18 million users affected
Chat & Ask AI by Codeway is an application that works in the same way as ChatGPT, for example. You can enter questions or commands in the conversation, and the chatbot will then respond. Research shows that all personal data in the app is not properly secured. This is not only your name, date of birth and email address, but also the complete history of your conversation with the chatbot.
Users often share confidential information with AI bots. This includes data about someone’s financial situation, medical issues, relationship problems and even mental problems. In some cases, this data is not even shared with friends or family, making it dangerous to easily retrieve this information in an app. According to CovertLabs the chat history of more than 18 million users is not properly secured in Chat & Ask AI. That amounts to 406 million messages that are easy to retrieve.
More unsafe applications
Do you still have Chat & Ask AI by Codeway on your smartphone? Then deactivate your account immediately and remove the application from your device. This way you can be sure that your data is not shared with other parties without your knowledge. This is by no means the only unsafe application CovertLabsmany more apps are careless with your data. This mainly concerns applications in categories such as education, entertainment, graphic design and health.
So be careful if you regularly install new apps on your smartphone, because there is a good chance that your data is not properly secured. Especially with relatively new applications that work with artificial intelligence, there is a risk that personal data will end up on the street. Do you want to prevent that?
