Google Maps vs Flitsmeister
At first, this may seem like an apples-to-oranges comparison. After all, Flitsmeister is mainly intended for reporting speed cameras and Google Maps for navigation. However, both apps can now do this, so a comparison between the two is not a bad idea.
Design
We’ll start immediately with a pretty big difference between the apps and that is the design. Flitsmeister is much more minimalistic than Google Maps. The advantage of this is that you are not distracted by things that are not important. The advantage of Google Maps, on the other hand, is that you can see much more information at a glance. One is not better than the other, it just depends on what you prefer.
Route planning
Both apps map out the same routes for you, so in that respect you can use them both. Google Maps immediately takes into account any construction work and delays you may encounter along the way. That is why you can see on Google Maps before departure that the same route takes a little longer than with Flitsmeister. The difference is not big, but with Google Maps you know a little better what to expect.
Speed cameras
As the name suggests, Flitsmeister is the master when it comes to flashes. Flitsmeister has specialized in speed camera alerts and traffic information for many years. The database and community around mobile speed cameras, fixed cameras and speed checks at Flitsmeister is therefore more extensive and up to date. The flash function was added to Google Maps not so long ago. The function is continually being expanded, including with data from Waze, but in practice Flitsmeister is still unbeatable in this regard.
Notifications
Both apps offer the option to report speed cameras and dangers you encounter along the way. With Flitsmeister you have a few more options, which means that you can still easily create more specific notifications. With Google Maps you choose from seven different buttons, with Flitsmeister you have no fewer than fourteen options (spread over two screens).
Although Google Maps is also improving in this regard, Flitsmeister is generally faster and more specific in processing user reports.
Conclusion: Google Maps vs Flitsmeister
If we look purely at navigation, Google Maps is the best choice in our opinion. This app gives you the most information and (partly thanks to data from Waze) can best estimate what the most efficient route is and how long it will probably take. In addition, Google Maps offers more additional options, such as POIs, gas stations and the like.
When we look at detecting speed cameras and processing user reports, Google Maps is still unable to beat Flitsmeister. Flitsmeister was designed for this and is without a doubt the best at it. Which app is best to use therefore mainly depends on what you need the app for most. Of course you can also use them next to each other!
