It will not have escaped your attention that the prices of memory and SSDs have risen considerably. Tim Cook was also recently asked how Apple is dealing with rising prices for memory and storage chips.

According to Cook, higher memory prices had minimal impact on Apple’s profit margins last quarter. But he does expect that Apple will feel the price increase more in the current quarter. Apple is currently looking at several options to absorb the price increase in the long term.

Does that automatically mean that we will see a price increase for the iPhone this year? Probably not. Apple has large margins and Tim Cook said that there will be more pressure on that. He has not yet said anything about possible price increases for consumers.

Moreover, Apple often works with (partly) long-term purchasing deals. They will therefore not immediately pay more for the memory. It is therefore expected that the prices of the iPhone 18 will not rise, at least not due to higher memory prices.

But if memory prices remain structurally high, things will probably change in the future. At the moment, AI companies have purchased a lot of chips and that is not going to change anytime soon.

Apple also participates in this, but because demand is so high and supply cannot grow proportionately, the price will only continue to rise. If Apple’s purchasing deals expire, it will also become more difficult for the iPhone maker not to pass on the rising costs.

That’s why an iPhone price increase is probably something for later. You should then think of the iPhone 19 series (in 2027), if the pressure on parts continues. Of course, we always have to wait and see, because developments in AI are currently still moving at a rapid pace.
