WhatsApp will soon launch an optional subscription for exclusive premium features in the app – here’s what you can expect.
WhatsApp subscriptions: you will pay for this later
Most people are probably not interested in a WhatsApp subscription at all. Fortunately, the upcoming subscription is completely optional. If you just want to send and receive messages, you do not have to take out this future subscription at all. This is only necessary if you would like to use additional functions. Or, like WhatsApp itself saywant an improved experience.
WhatsApp has now announced that it plans to offer access to this new subscription via a waiting list in the short term. Initially for Android users, but an iOS version will probably follow soon. The subscription we are talking about has some new premium features. Think exclusive stickers, app themes, the ability to pin more than three chats, customizing app icons, a special set of new chat ringtones and much more.
This is just the first set of features of the WhatsApp subscription. More may be added over time as WhatsApp collects feedback from early users. Since the subscription is still in development, some features and details may still be adjusted before the subscription is finally officially launched.
Not yet clear when
Unfortunately, we do not yet know when WhatsApp’s new subscription will be rolled out to the general public. As mentioned, it looks like Android users will first have the opportunity to try out the subscription. When a version for iOS is released, you will of course read it immediately iPhoned.
