A new feature will soon be coming to WhatsApp that will make (parts of) your messages better hidden.
With this new WhatsApp feature, your messages remain better hidden
Sometimes you have friends on WhatsApp who are just a little too enthusiastic about the latest episode of your favorite series. Or revealing a little too much about the plot of a recent film for the umpteenth time. WhatsApp will soon introduce a new feature for those ‘problem people’. It is an anti-spoiler feature that allows you to hide text messages (or part of them) until you, the recipient, tap on them.
The feature surfaced in a recent test version of WhatsApp for iOS. The feature is still in development, so you cannot enable it in the beta for the time being. However, it is already clear how it will work.

WhatsApp appears to be adding the ‘Spoiler’ option as a new formatting option, in addition to the existing components such as bold, italics and strikethrough. If you choose the new spoiler option, the selected text will be covered with a gray bar.
It’s also useful that you probably don’t always have to do it via the formatting menu. The function also gets a kind of shortcut code. You can also add the spoiler tag by placing two vertical lines before and after the piece of text you want to hide. So a text like ||Darth Vader is Luke’s father|| will then appear in a spoiler tag.

For the time being, it seems to mainly involve plain text. It is not yet known whether WhatsApp will also expand to photos, videos or other message types later. And when exactly will the feature roll out to everyone? That remains to be seen (as is often the case with WhatsApp).
Until then, keep an eye out in WhatsApp for possible spoilers of recent films and series until this new feature is available to everyone!
