The Chinese colossus Geely has presented the Preface, a brand new sedan with a basis that we already know from the Volvo XC40 in the Netherlands.
Rewind to April 2019, the month in which Geely presented the Preface Concept in Shanghai. A definitive production version of that study model that was already quite production-ready at the time has now been presented. That car is not surprisingly called simply ‘Preface’.
The Preface is a 4.79 meter long sedan with a wheelbase of 2.8 meters. This makes it a fairly large sedan, a car that falls between the 4.76 meter long Volvo S60 and the 4.94 meter long S90 in terms of length. Of course we don’t mention Volvo for nothing. After all, Geely is also the parent company of Volvo and so it is not surprising that under the carriage of the Preface there is well-known technology. While the slightly shorter S60 is on Volvo’s mid-range and top-positioned models SPA platform, the Preface uses the CMA base. We already know that modular platform from the XC40. The Polestar 2 and various models from Lynk & Co. of that bottom plate.
As far as design is concerned, not much has changed compared to the Preface Concept. The suicide doors of the Preface Concept have had to make way for regularly opening doors, but in general Geely is sticking to the design of the concept car. Visual material of the interior is not available yet.
Geely Preface Concept (Shanghai, 2019)
The Preface will in any case be available in China with a 190 hp and 300 Nm strong 2.0 turbo engine, one of the machine derived from petrol engines, also known in Europe. As far as is known, the Preface is not coming to Europe.
