These Mac models support macOS 27

End for Macs with Intel chips

Apple has not yet made an official announcement for macOS 27, but previous confirmations have already given us information about the devices that will support the new software. At the launch of macOS Tahoe, Apple indicated that this would be the last major update for Intel-based Macs. This means that this year there are many ‘old’ Macs that are no longer supported.

This means that some Mac models that currently run macOS Tahoe cannot be updated to macOS 27. On average, Apple devices receive major updates for 5 to 6 years. In recent years, more and more older versions have also been provided with security updates.

End for Intel Macs

Last year at the Platforms State of the Union event, Apple announced that Intel Macs this year no will get macOS 27. Software updates for these Macs will be limited to security updates from 2026 onwards.

Support for Intel Macs is being phased out because Apple wants to put all its focus and innovation on Macs with Apple Silicon. In 2020, Apple began its transition to Apple Silicon with the launch of the M1 Mac machines. Three years ago, the company completed the transition to Apple Silicon for all Macs and stopped making new Intel Macs.
