It is common knowledge that Apple has been working intensively on a new version of Siri over the past two years. With the announcement of Apple Intelligence in 2024, the company has promised to significantly improve Siri by providing personalized results, insight into on-screen content and enabling rich in-app actions. In different interviews Apple has acknowledged the problems with Siri, and they may have been resolved.
Along with the launch of iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and macOS 27, Apple will likely also introduce their brand new Siri. According to rumors, the assistant will not only have a new look, but also the ability to remember conversations better, respond smarter and provide a more authentic AI assistant experience.
From voice assistant to AI tool
Together with software update 27, Siri will take on a more prominent role within the Apple ecosystem. In previous versions, Siri mainly acted as a voice assistant for simple tasks. This will soon change to an AI tool as we know it today. It will be a personal chatbot that understands the context on the screen, knows your preferences and is available as an app. All this should contribute to a more natural experience, with attention to both privacy and functionality.

The new Siri appears to be not only an upgrade for the iPhone, iPad and Mac, but also the basis for improvements on Apple Watch, Apple TV and possibly other Apple products in the future. Apple thus lays the foundation for a more personal AI assistant that should offer the same smart, contextual and natural user experience on multiple devices.
Big changes for Siri
Apple’s voice assistant is undergoing major changes with software updates 27 for iPhone, iPad and Mac. Siri will have a standalone app that functions as a chatbot. As a result, Siri is developing into a full-fledged smart assistant that knows your personal situations and data and is able to extract information from various apps to answer your questions.
New look for Siri
One of the most noticeable changes will be visual. Siri gets an updated design in iOS 27 that uses Dynamic Island and has a darker, sleeker look, instead of the current luminous screen edge now seen with Apple Intelligence. On the Mac, iPad and iPhones with a notch, Siri appears at the top of the screen with a sleek and dark design, but remains clearly recognizable as your personal assistant.
You can always switch from a single Siri result to a conversation by swiping down the first result. This way you can easily ask follow-up questions from the simple Siri view on your home or lock screen. For an optimal experience with AI assistance, you can use the Siri app.
Separate app as chatbot
Do you prefer to use Siri as a chatbot, similar to ChatGPT? In that case, you can use the separate Siri app to communicate with your personal AI assistant. You can easily ask Siri questions and receive answers. You can then elaborate on the answer or clarify your question so that you receive answers in a natural way. This includes features such as conversation retention, more control over what is saved, and the ability to automatically delete chats after a certain period of time.
AI features for Siri listed
Apple Intelligence for Siri is about to be a major breakthrough for the voice assistant, but what have we been waiting for? Siri’s improvements include several revolutionary features:
- Search smarter: Siri will use an AI-powered search engine that can deliver much more detailed results than previously available. This is mainly used for general knowledge questions. Although Siri has always been able to retrieve some general information, this information is often not specific or complete. As a result, an accurate answer to your question was not always given.
- Personal results: Siri will soon be able to use personal information, such as emails, calendars and messages, to provide contextual responses. For example, if you ask “When does my mother’s flight land?”, Siri will search your messages for flight information and then check the current status online.
- Insight into what is on your screen: Siri can ultimately understand what’s on your iPhone or iPad screen. This allows you, for example, to ask questions about information you are currently seeing, or to perform actions based on the content shown.
- In-app actions: Siri gets deeper integration with apps, allowing you to perform complex tasks without manually operating the app. Think of editing a photo, booking an appointment, or performing actions within apps based on the context.
Connecting AI chatbots
Software update 27 not only makes it possible to link Siri to ChatGPT, but also adds Gemini from Google. The two tech companies have previously announced a collaboration. It is expected that you will also be able to integrate Claude with your personal assistant, allowing you to use multiple AI chatbots in combination with Apple Intelligence.

System-wide search function
In collaboration with Siri and Apple Intelligence, a completely new search function will probably be introduced at the system level. Swiping down from the top of the screen in the middle will bring up a search bar that says “Search or Ask,” likely integrated into the Dynamic Island. Within the new environment it is possible to switch between Siri and another AI chatbot, and both type and speak.
This function is similar to Spotlight, but would be much more extensive because the results are richer and information can be retrieved from more applications. It is still unclear whether this search function will exist alongside Spotlight.
