NLZIET is now also available in Apple CarPlay, but specifically for listening to radio stations in the car. You do not use the NLZiet app in CarPlay to stream video while driving, but to easily switch between Dutch radio stations behind the wheel.
Since this year, you can stream more than seventy national and regional radio channels in NLZiet, including public broadcasters, commercial stations, theme channels and regional channels. This radio function works on well-known platforms such as the mobile app, smart TV, Apple TV, the website and now also via Apple CarPlay in suitable cars.
Radio in NLZiet
With the recent expansion, NLZiet is no longer only a platform for live TV and on demand content from NPO, RTL, Talpa and BBC NL, among others, but also a central location for Dutch radio. In collaboration with Radioplayer Netherlands, NLZiet is adding more than seventy radio stations, ranging from national public and commercial stations to theme channels and regional broadcasters.
The radio stations are clearly grouped within NLZiet, making it easy to browse and search for the desired station. You can listen via the NLZiet app on your smartphone, smart TV, Apple TV, via the website and via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in the car.
Listen to the radio via CarPlay
Once your iPhone is connected to Apple CarPlay, NLZIET will appear as an app on your car’s infotainment screen, provided you use the latest version of the NLZIET app with radio function. From this CarPlay view you can operate the radio stations via the car’s touchscreen or in some cases the buttons on the steering wheel, so that you are distracted as little as possible while driving.
Because all radio stations are streamed via the internet, you have the same channel selection in the car as on your iPhone or Apple TV, including national, regional and theme channels. This makes NLZiet attractive as a central radio hub, especially if you often switch between different regional channels or theme stations or if you are abroad and would like to listen to Dutch radio.
Set up favorites for CarPlay
To be able to access your favorite channels in the car as quickly as possible, it is useful to set favorites within the NLZiet app. In the radio function you can mark stations as favorites by coloring the heart next to the station so that they appear at the top or in a separate favorites section.
When you then open NLZIET via CarPlay, you will immediately see those favorites again, allowing you to start the desired channel with a few taps or with the steering wheel controls. This way you don’t have to scroll through the entire range and you limit the number of actions while driving, which improves safety.
Video in CarPlay only still
Although NLZIET is best known for streaming TV programs and series, video streams in CarPlay while driving are not intended. Apple designs CarPlay specifically with safety in mind, blocking video playback while the car is in motion so the driver isn’t distracted.
Since iOS 26, Apple has added official video playback to CarPlay, but this is only possible when the car is stationary, such as in a parking lot or while charging an electric car. The video feature requires the automaker to activate support via a software update, but so far no car brands have done so. In practice, this means that in most cases you use CarPlay for audio, such as music, podcasts and now also the extensive radio function of NLZiet.
