Will my older iPhone or iPad become slower due to update 27?

This year, users do not have to fear that their old device will become slower due to a software update. Apple emphasizes optimization so that existing hardware uses resources more efficiently. This keeps performance stable and devices even feeling smoother than before, despite the introduction of new features and visual upgrades.

System processes are distributed more intelligently across the chip, resulting in faster app startup times and lower energy consumption. Animations and background tasks are also optimized, so multitasking runs smoother and widgets refresh faster. Additionally, older devices benefit from improved memory management, meaning apps don’t need to be reloaded as quickly. These thoughtful improvements contribute to an overall user experience that is not only maintained, but in many cases even noticeably improved.

Does Siri AI work in Dutch?

Siri AI is not available in the EU on iPhone and iPad for the time being, because Apple cannot roll out the new features under the European Digital Markets Act. Apple states that all virtual assistants should have the same access to personal data, which is not desirable for privacy reasons.

These iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and macOS 27 features don’t work on all devices

An alternative solution from Apple was rejected by the European Commission, blocking the introduction of Siri AI on iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 postponed. As a result, Siri AI features are not available in EU countries, regardless of language settings.

On Mac and Apple Vision Pro, Siri AI is available to EU users with the appropriate software versions. For Apple Watch, Siri AI is theoretically possible, but requires a paired iPhone that supports EU availability. More information can be found in the article about Siri AI in the EU.

Has Apple solved the problems with Liquid Glass?

The Liquid Glass design introduced with iOS 26 remains largely the same, but Apple now gives you more control over the look. In the settings you will find a new slider that allows you to change the interface from almost completely clear to more strongly tinted.

In addition, app icons have been refreshed and displayed sharper, and contrast and refractions in the interface have been subtly improved. The result is a slightly calmer and more readable whole, without it feeling like you have to learn to work with a completely new system.

Does the new search function also work without Siri?

Yes, you can fortunately use the new system-wide search without the help of Siri AI. Apple has significantly improved the search functionality of Spotlight, Photos, and Mail, with the aim of providing more relevant and stable results. The system adapts based on your usage, allowing it to provide better suggestions over time. Mail has introduced a new ranking system for the most relevant results, so important messages appear at the top more often.

The search function on the iPad is also seamlessly integrated into the entire interface. The system search function (Spotlight) feels faster and more consistent there, and it has become easier to take actions directly from the search screen, such as opening an app, making an appointment or finding a file. All this can be done in natural language, so you can find exactly what you need.

What do the new parental control options entail?

With user-friendly functions, you as a parent decide what your children can and cannot see, who they can communicate with and when they can use apps. Creating a child account creates an environment tailored to the age of your child. With the Setup Assistant you choose which apps your child can use, so you remain in control.

You can set new contacts to be approved and the system can automatically intervene when sharing explicit material. Children can ask permission to use protected websites or new apps.

Additionally, you can set total usage time per day for entertainment, gaming, or social media apps, with expert recommendations for healthier screen time. The Schedules feature lets you control which apps your kids can use at different times. Screen Time has been updated, making it easy to see how often your children use their device and which apps appeal to them most.

Will I soon be able to use the Apple Intelligence functions?

Yes, unlike Siri AI, the ‘normal’ Apple Intelligence functions will become available in the Netherlands and the EU. This means you’ll soon be able to use the Apple Intelligence Tools menu in Photos, along with the existing Clean Up feature and two new options. In addition, there is Image Playground for realistic photos and much more. You can find all the new capabilities for Apple Intelligence in Software Updates 27 in the featured article below.

Will I be able to use all functions on my old iPhone or iPad?

Unfortunately, not all features are available on all iPhone and iPad models that support iOS 27 or iPadOS 27. For example, some new features are exclusive to iPads with M4 chip or newer or the latest generation iPhone. In a separate article we list all the features that are not available on all iPhone or iPads that support iOS/iPadOS 27.
