During WWDC, Apple announced macOS 27, the successor to macOS Tahoe. We have recently received a number of questions about the new macOS software and, as every year, we answer the most frequently asked questions in our macOS 27 FAQ.
The brand new software update primarily introduces Liquid Glass’s improved interface for Mac, but also brings significantly improved search functionality for Spotlight and Mail, as well as extensions for Apple Intelligence. Unlike iOS/iPadOS 27, macOS 27 does include Siri AI in the EU. Below we list the most important points based on your questions in the macOS Golden Gate FAQ.
When can I download macOS 27?
The most important question in this macOS 27 FAQ is of course when will macOS Golden Gate be available? Apple has announced that the free software update will start this fall can be installed. Developers and registered users can download a new test version via developer.apple.com. Public testers can get started via beta.apple.com
Which devices support macOS 27?
The Macs below are suitable for installing macOS 27, do you have an older Mac? Then it is unfortunately no longer possible to update this. Don’t know exactly which Mac you have? Please check this via  â–¸ About this Mac â–¸ More info â–¸ Overview.
- MacBook Pro with M1 chip from 2020 or newer
- MacBook Air with M1 chip from 2020 or newer
- Mac mini with M1 chip from 2020 or newer
- iMac with M1 chip from 2021 or newer
- Mac Studio with M1 Max or Ultra from 2022 or newer
- Mac Pro with M2 Ultra from 2023
- MacBook Neo A18 Pro from 2026 or newer
Has Apple optimized the software?
This year, users do not have to fear that their old Mac will become slower due to a software update. Apple emphasizes optimization so that existing hardware uses resources more efficiently. This keeps performance stable and devices even feeling smoother than before, despite the introduction of new features and visual upgrades.
System processes are distributed more intelligently across the chip, resulting in faster app startup times and lower energy consumption. Animations and background tasks are also optimized, so multitasking runs smoother and widgets refresh faster. Additionally, older devices benefit from improved memory management, meaning apps don’t need to be reloaded as quickly. These thoughtful improvements contribute to an overall user experience that is not only maintained, but in many cases even noticeably improved.
Does Siri AI work in Dutch?
Unlike iPhone and iPad, macOS Golden Gate will feature Siri AI, an updated version of Siri with stronger language understanding and access to personal context such as messages and photos. The assistant can understand what’s on your screen and combine it with information from the internet for follow-up actions. New is the separate Siri app, in which you can view conversations as a chat and easily find previous answers thanks to iCloud synchronization. Siri AI also appears on iPad and Mac in the Spotlight bar, where you can search and start a text conversation.

On a Mac with macOS 27 it is possible to use Siri AI in English. More languages will be added later, but it is not yet known when Dutch will be available. More information can be found in the article about Siri AI in the EU.
Will I soon be able to use the Apple Intelligence functions?
Yes, all ‘regular’ Apple Intelligence functions are also available in the Netherlands and the EU. This means you’ll soon be able to use the Apple Intelligence Tools menu in Photos, along with the existing Clean Up feature and two new options. In addition, there is Image Playground for realistic photos and much more. You can find all the new capabilities for Apple Intelligence in Software Updates 27 in the featured article below.
Has Apple solved the problems with Liquid Glass?
Golden Gate addresses one of Tahoe’s biggest irritations: the inconsistent corner rounding of windows. In macOS 27, all app windows now have the same, tighter radius, for both Apple and third-party apps, including older apps that haven’t yet been updated for Liquid Glass. This gives the whole thing much more peace and a clearer visual hierarchy.

Navigation columns, menus and toolbars have also been redesigned. Apple has improved contrast and typography, so that labels and buttons stand out better from the transparent background and you can see more quickly what is clickable.
Finally, app icons have been refreshed and displayed sharper, and contrast and refractions in the interface have been subtly improved. The result is a slightly calmer and more readable whole, without it feeling like you have to learn to work with a completely new system.
Does the new search function also work without Siri?
Yes, you can fortunately use the new system-wide search without the help of Siri AI. Apple has significantly improved the search functionality of Spotlight, Photos, and Mail, with the aim of providing more relevant and stable results. The system adapts based on your usage, allowing it to provide better suggestions over time. Mail has introduced a new ranking system for the most relevant results, so important messages appear at the top more often.
The search function on the Mac is also seamlessly integrated into the entire interface. The system search function (Spotlight) feels faster and more consistent there, and it has become easier to take actions directly from the search screen, such as opening an app, making an appointment or finding a file. All this can be done in natural language, so you can find exactly what you need.
Will all the new features work on my Mac?
Unfortunately, not all features are available on all Mac models that support macOS 27. For example, some new features are exclusive to Macs with M3 chip or newer. In a separate article we list all the features that are not available on all Macs that support macOS 27.
