With Image Playground on your iPhone, iPad and Mac you can take conversations to a more creative level. Instead of just text and emojis, you can now quickly create unique images that match your conversation. Whether you want to create a fun illustration, visually demonstrate an idea, or share something personal, Image Playground makes it easy.
Thanks to the smart integration with Apple Intelligence, everything works directly from the Messages app, without the need for additional apps. You describe what you want to create and within seconds a custom image appears that you can send immediately. This way your chats will not only become more lively, but also a lot more personal and creative.
Image Playground in Messages
Before you can use the Image Playground feature in Messages, you must enable Apple Intelligence on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac. Image Playground is integrated into the Messages app for iPhone, iPad, and Mac, making it easy to create and insert an image. While the suggestions in the Playground app are not contextual, suggestions based on the conversation may appear in the Messages app.
Create AI images in Messages
- In a conversation, tap the plus button
- Then choose Image Playground from the list
- A mini app opens
This version of Playground works the same as the full Image Playground app. Just type in a description of an image and use the same steps to get it where you want it. Once you’re done, tap Done and the image will appear in the send field of your conversation and you can send it. Playground will automatically provide suggestions based on the conversation.
After you create an image, you can customize it with additional descriptions or suggestions from Apple. You’ll see different options for each description and can swipe through the images to make a choice. You can also add or remove words and phrases to refine the image until you are happy with the result.
Choose people and change styles
With Image Playground it is possible to personalize AI images based on people or pets. Describe the desired image and name the person or pet while composing it. These people must be present in your photo library in the ‘People’ album or you must manually upload an image of a person. It is not possible to generate an image of a person, for example a celebrity, using AI and text.
The Photo button allows you to take a photo of a person or animal, or you can upload one yourself. You can also use the Person button to quickly choose a person. You will already see suggestions during a conversation in the messaging app.
Image Playground has five styles in the app. You can choose from Animation, Illustration, Drawing, Genmoji and ChatGPT. The big difference between 3D and 2D is that 3D looks like a Pixar movie, while 2D looks more like a simple cartoon or pencil drawing. Tap the style button to change it.
