Although Nissan has a bull’s eye on paper with the Micra, the sales numbers are actually still a bit behind. However, the brand still sees opportunities in the Micra, because Nissan’s production planner is talking about a next generation of the compact scion.
Since the Micra shares its genes with the immensely popular Renault Clio, you would expect the Micras to fly over the counter like hot cakes. Although it is still running well in the Netherlands with more than 3,000 units sold (2019), it also has to leave its French group mate amply ahead of itself. Renault sold 9,056 Clios here last year. Add to this that Renault’s share of the alliance is becoming more important on our continent, the last days of the Nissan Micra seem to be over.
However, nothing could be further from the truth, because Autocar spoke to Nissan’s head of product planning. He talks to the British magazine about a next generation of the Micra. This will again share the basis with the Renault Clio. In addition, Marco Fioravanti says that the two cars will again differ enormously in appearance. However, he does not say how long the current Micra still has to last. In a video that Nissan previously published about all of its upcoming firsts, a Micra was seen in a flash. However, that seemed to be a facelift model.
