Volkswagen has unveiled the brand new Golf R and it puts all its predecessors in the shade in terms of performance. Not that you had anything to complain about before. Time to take a look at what can be obtained from used R’s and R32’s.
Volkswagen Golf 4 R32 – € 19,950
Yes, we understand if the price makes you feel steeped. The oldest Golf in this list is not even the cheapest. And it is not blue either, as you might prefer it. The range (we look at the occasions here on Techzle.nl) is anything but exuberant if you are looking for a Golf 4 R32. However, he is with a company that will not just sell junk, so that inspires confidence that you will also get something in return for that money. And let’s face it, such an R32 with its delicious VR6 roll will undoubtedly give you a smile on your face right from the first kilometers, even if you have just left almost 20 grand.
Volkswagen Golf 5 R32 – € 14,999
Again not blue, but a fairly anonymous colored R32. The fact that people would like to have it in blue is also reflected in the prices. That is why we prefer to highlight this somewhat ‘cheaper’ R32. Although it is always the question with these crack samples whether they have been handled a bit neatly, the photos at least make us suspect that it is a car that has known love. Its higher mileage does not necessarily have to be a big problem, especially since there is still a manual gearbox on the VR6, instead of the certainly not problem-free earlier DSGs.
Volkswagen Golf 6 R – € 17,895
This Golf R from 2010 does have the popular color, has run less than the one above and is of course also a few years younger. Still, the price difference is relatively small. This may be due to the fact that the technology is a bit more fragile, that you have two pips less and that the Golf 6 R was not the most spectacular of the bunch in terms of appearance. Anyway, the fact that the Golf has evolved extremely carefully since then, ensures that it still looks nice and fresh. In terms of facilities on board, it is also a must, because the accessory list was standard well filled with the R. Then you soon forget that it is already a ten year old car.
Volkswagen Golf 7 R – € 26,950
In terms of prices, it naturally jumps a big step up when the most recent Golf R appears in the search results. At barely € 27,000, this 2016 copy is anything but a bargain. Although it can be cheaper if you take it in a somewhat more anonymous color, it looks a bit nicer in that way. That’s also worth something, right? After all, gray waves are flying around your ears and the last thing you want when you have an R is that it becomes too anonymous. Such a modern Golf R will not be a really striking appearance for the time being, but for that you have always come to the wrong place with the Golf. Just ride and enjoy when the 300 hp are unleashed.
Volkswagen Golf 7 R Variant – € 29,998
It remains just under € 30,000 in this list, but then really only just. However, this Golf R Variant also deserves some attention. The fact that you could also get an R Variant with the previous generation, was a nice extension of the R-family tree. This is perhaps the ultimate car for the family father or mother who wants to get driving pleasure from an otherwise very practical car. Okay, hobbling to the South of France with a caravan behind it might not be the most comfortable in this car, but it is possible thanks to the detachable towbar! Once at the destination, send the children to the pool and enjoy the winding roads in the area. Sounds like a great vacation, right?
