’30 million EVs in the EU by 2030 ‘

Time to set new goals for the future: By 2030, a total of 30 million fully electric cars must be on the road in the EU. That means there is still a lot to do in the next ten years.

The target of the European Commission has been discovered by Bloomberg, which is cited again by Automotive News Europe. A prematurely surfaced plan would concretely state that ‘at least’ 30 million EVs must drive on the road network of the countries that are part of the European Union.

Thirty million will be a somewhat abstract number for many, but a look at the current situation reveals a lot. At the moment there are about 1.4 million EVs in the countries concerned. In the light of the total vehicle fleet, the target is much less ambitious than the desired growth would suggest. The European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) reports that there are currently around 312.7 million motor vehicles circulating in the EU. With 30 million, we would therefore be just below 10 percent.

More ambitious

Incidentally, the Netherlands, like a number of other countries, is a lot more ambitious: no new fuel car will have to be sold here by 2030.

The plan, which mainly sets out how to transform the entire transport sector, would also elaborate on a substantial expansion of fast international rail transport and the rapid development of clean aircraft.
